Raf Jans is Professor of Operations Management at HEC Montréal, Canada. He obtained a Ph.D. in Applied Economics with a specialization in Operations Research in 2002 from the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) in Belgium. He also spent two years as a visiting PhD student at the Decision Sciences department of the London Business School.

Previously, he held a tenured position at RSM Erasmus University in the Netherlands and a one-year visiting position at the Desautels Faculty of Management of McGill University. He joined HEC Montreal in 2008. Currently, he is the coordinator for the PhD specialization in Operations Management and Logistics.

Professor Jans currently holds a research chair in Supply Chain Operations Planning. His research has been published in top journals such as Operations Research, INFORMS Journal on Computing and Transportation Science. He is also a member of the interuniversity research centers GERAD and CIRRELT. He is involved as board member in the Euro Working Group on Lot Sizing.

His research interests are in optimization modeling, the design of exact and heuristic algorithms and the application to industrial problems, mainly in the area of operations and supply chain management. His current research focuses on production and distribution planning problems and the management of product variety in supply chain management. This research is currently mainly supported by the chair and by NSERC grants (Discovery grant and Discovery Accelerator Supplement). He has also been involved in industry projects related to production scheduling, supply chain network design and new product design.

Professor Jans has been teaching Management Science courses at RSM Erasmus University at the MBA and Executive MBA level. He currently teaches Operations and Supply Chain Management courses at HEC Montréal.
